Yes, our trips will always be Co-Guided by a Jervis Bay Kayak Instructor as well as a local Kayak Guide relevant to the trip you are attending.
How fit do I have to be?
Fitness varies with different trips but as a general rule an average level of fitness is required. If you can paddle 3 to 4 hours a day at an easy to moderate pace or walk for an hour at a moderate pace you will be fine. Generally as a guide our half day Explorer Trip would be an indication of the average days paddle. Given time and weather conditions we are able to be flexible with most days to ensure maximum enjoyment of the trip.
We can help you plan a few paddles or courses to get you ready for the trip to ensure you get the best out of the experience.
Are the trips all about paddling?
The trips are designed around Kayaking but each trip offers different experiences that make them unique. For Example, Salmon eating Orcas in Canada, Cultural village stays and snorkeling in the Solomon Islands and the Desert, Whale sharks and snorkeling on Ningaloo Reef. Our Trips are based on the major unique experience that each region has to offer.
How far do we paddle each day?
Paddle distances are between 10km and 20km a day depending on other activities such as snorkelling, walks to gorges, village visits etc.
How good a paddler do I have to be?
You should have some Sea Kayaking experience such as Basic Technique, Basic Capsize and Rescue Knowledge and be comfortable paddling in some varied conditions. JBK can help you gain the relevant experience for your chosen trip through our comprehensive list of Paddles and Training Courses.
What if I can’t swim?
Non Swimmers are welcome as PFD’s (Lifejackets) are worn at all times. It is advisable however that you be comfortable in the water floating with the aid of a PFD in the event of accidental capsize from the kayak.
How old is too old?
The minimum age is 14yrs and there are no other age restrictions applied to our trips. As long as you are fit or have manageable conditions these trips will suit you at any age.
What is the age range of paddlers?
Age ranges of participants are usually 20’s and older with a majority being in their 40’s 50’s, 60’s.
Are there toilets?
Toilets vary from trip to trip but range from composting toilets to running water flush toilets. Some bush toileting may be required at rest stops along the way that are not established sites.
What do I have to bring?
A detailed list will be provided with each specific trip. This will include clothing, sleeping equipment and any personal toiletries and paddling gear. The list will also detail any medical information you need for each destination as well as what type of food you can expect and what is fully provided for you at the destination.
Why aren’t flights included in all trips?
This allows you flexibility to extend you holidays before or after you kayaking trip or use personal frequent flyer programs in the case of Australian based or long distance overseas trips. On Trips where flights are not inclusive, we will suggest the flights your JBK Leader will be on if you would like to book the same flights and travel together.
What size are the groups?
Group sizes are a maximum of 10 people plus Guides on most trips.
Do we meet the other paddlers?
You will have a chance to meet your paddling group if you undertake regular training paddles with JBK. For international trips we offer a fun catch up Paddle Day for the Group prior to leaving to finalize all travel details.
Do I have to share a tent/ room?
All trip prices are based on twin share rooms/tents/Bungalows etc. On some trips a single room can be organized at an extra cost to you. Traveling alone is not a problem with JBK group Travel as it common to have single members of the group. A fantastic group experience is very quickly established and can be the highlight of any trip.
