Australian Canoeing - Sea Kayaking Instructor Award Course
The holder of the Australian Canoeing "Sea Instructor Level 2 Award" has been assessed and is qualified to instruct, facilitate skill transfer to develop participants in order so that they may act independently, or with minimum supervision in moderate sea conditions. The Holder of this award has demonstrated the ability to:
Train groups in sea kayaking. Instruct sea kayaking trips in easy to moderate conditions. Ability to practically communicate sea kayaking skills.
High level commercial guiding skills. Understanding and operation of communication systems.
Ability to set up and run overnight and expedition programs.
Ability to organize individual activities as as well whole programs and skill development programs.

UNITS OF COMPETENCY :
SRO ORE 007A Guide groups in a broad range of outdoor recreation situations and circumstances.
SRX CAI 006A Organize a sport and recreation program.
SRX CAI 007A Conduct a sport and recreation program.
SRO ORE 008A Instruct outdoor recreation activity skills.
BSZ 404A Train small groups.
To be eligible the participants must:
Hold the Australian Canoeing Sea Leader Award or equivalent.
Hold a current first aid qualification. Qualifications must be accredited by the respective state’s OH&S governing body.
To Qualify for the Sea Instructor Award the following program can be undertaken with the Jervis Bay Kayak Company to cover all Units of Competency:
JBK Company Induction and OH&S Seminar.
Two JBK ½ Day Skills Session programs acting as Sea Kayak Instructors Assistant.
Two JBK ½ Day Skills Sessions programs acting as Sea Kayak Instructor.
Assessment and Formal Exam and Certification day.
N.B. Students are required to purchase the Australian Canoeing Instructors Handbook.
A Candidate is required to present a logbook which must contain a minimum of 4 different occasions of working in an instructional capability with different client groups in a moderate sea environment.
Includes Reference materials, Certification Processing, Trips and Equipment. Instructors will advise if more practical experience is required before Assessment is undertaken. Award is Valid for 3 Years.
Please note : All Australian Canoeing Award ratings require successful completion of the units of competency for each award. It cannot be assumed that the participant will attain the award without completion of each phase of the program. Sea Guide L2 and Sea Instructor L2 Ratings candidates should be aiming to achieve these by building experience over time to ensure breadth of experience.
